Contract status at heart of Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid anger

Cristiano Ronaldo is furious at Real Madrid over the progress of new contract talks.

It emerged this week that Ronaldo has rejected Real's offer to extend and demanded he be allowed to leave at the end of the season 'for a reasonable fee'.

At the heart of Ronaldo's frustration is his contract status, reports AS.

Ronaldo is currently on €21m-a-year and has been pushing for a huge pay-rise after helping Real win the LaLiga and Champions League Double last season, along with being named this year's Ballon d'Or.

However, Real's offer left Ronaldo insulted. The Portuguese is angry that his salary falls well short of rivals Lionel Messi and Neymar. At Barcelona, Messi earns €35m-a-year, while Neymar has joined PSG on €40m-a-year.

The situation has left Ronaldo fuming and has driven him to demand a transfer for next summer.
