"When you're desperate you find energy from everywhere and you fight for every ball," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"That's what we have to do as well and it could change the whole scenario."
Injury has ravaged Viduka's career in recent seasons and the fit-again Australian admitted it has been a frustrating time since arriving on Tyneside.
"I would have liked to have played more games, especially for Kevin Keegan," he said.
"I had a bit of a problem with my calf and hamstring and I couldn't play."
