Veteran defender Pressley battling for Celtic stay

The 34 year-old defender is available after back surgery and four consecutive reserve-team games. He said: "I consider myself ready for selection but obviously I have to be patient; that is the nature of the beast at a big club.

"The manager has shown loyalty to players who have served him well in John and Stephen. It has been difficult in respect of the fact that this is probably the first serious injury I have sustained throughout my career and one that has kept me out the longest.

"I have been philosophical about it. I think when I arrived I showed the manager the type of form that attracted him to me in the first place. Obviously, I know I need to prove my worth again and I am desperate to do that.

"My contract is up in the summer but it is up to me to earn the right to a longer stay. At the moment I can only focus on the weeks and months ahead."
