Former England and Newcastle players Rob Lee and Warren Barton will not face police charges for crashing a stolen car into a van.
They have admitted taking the Mercedes taxi they were riding in when their driver got out of the vehicle. The two then drove it into a van nearby.
Both then allegedly fled, but the car's owner declined to press charges.
"Both men have been told they face no further action,'' the Metropolitan Police said. "The victim did not want to pursue the matter.''
The 41-year-old Lee played for Newcastle between 1992 and 2002 and made 21 appearances in England's midfield. Barton, a 38-year-old former defender, was with the Magpies from 1995 to 2002 and played three times for England.
