Man City cruise to victory over ten-man West Ham

Man City comfortably won the points thanks to a couple from Elano after Daniel Sturridge had opened the scoring following the dismissal of West Ham midfielder Mark Noble.

City boss Mark Hughes praised his new signing and admitted there may be more to follow.

"Vincent Kompany was excellent, Stephen Ireland came in and had a real effect," he told Sky Sports 1.

"There were a lot of positives today, Daniel Sturridge got on the scoresheet, which we wanted him to do."

As for further signings, Hughes revealed he has further money to spend.

"Yes, I have," he confirmed.

"You saw one purchase today (Kompany) that cost a significant amount of money and we'll be back in the market trying to sign good players.

"The money is there for me to invest."

I was delighted with that. It was a big win for us," he continued.

"Irrespective of the fact they went down to 10-men so early, I still thought we were very much in control of the game and felt that there was a real determination in our play.

"We showed some good willingness to ask questions of the opposition, we changed the angles of our attacks well and there was a good tempo to our passing.

"It was a good all-round performance. We had to be a little bit patient and wait for our first goal, but once we got our noses in front, there was only going to be one winner."
