"It's not true and I was very disappointed to see the stories," he said. "We've listened back to the tape of the interview and there's absolutely no mention of Newcastle so I've no idea why journalists at the game have fabricated these comments.

"I've a lot of respect for Newcastle so I'm not going to make disparaging remarks about them and quite frankly it's none of my business to do so."
