Hibs boss Collins: We'll be careful with Fletcher

Hibs boss John Collins is confident young midfielder Steven Fletcher won't suffer from burnout.

With the departure of top players like Scott Brown, Kevin Thomson and Steven Whittaker, supporters are hoping Fletcher, 20, will be the next major homegrown talent to emerge from the Easter Road conveyor belt.

Wary of putting too much pressure on the under-21 internationalist, Collins revealed yesterday that the player would be utilised only when necessary and that he would not be forced to endure a long and tiring season.

"We would like to keep the freshness at the top end of the pitch," said Collins. "It would be dangerous to play him Fletcher week in, week out as he could get injured or suffer from burn-out. We want to bring him on steadily."
