Gold keen to stay at Birmingham

Birmingham City chairman David Gold admits he wants to stay with the club as Carson Yeung's takeover appears doomed.

Brum co-owners Gold and David Sullivan have been adamant they will not extend the December 23 deadline they gave the Hong Kong businessman to complete the deal.

It was suggested when Alex McLeish was appointed as the club's new manager last week that developments had slowed considerably.

Gold revealed the odds on the deal taking place had "lengthened considerably" and now Sullivan has claimed he would be happy to stay at St Andrews.

"I'd imagine we'd still be here on December 25," he told Sky Sports.

"I'd genuinely like to stay now because we've got renewed enthusiasm and we hope all the supporters get behind the new manager."
