Shay Given says Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear can count on his support.

Given expressed sympathy and support for Joe Kinnear, Kevin Keegan's interim replacement, who launched an expletive-ridden rant at the media 11 days ago.

"He was disappointed and angry with some of the stuff that was written about him," Given said.

"He needed to get a few things off his chest - and he certainly did that - but we've got to give him credit for coming up to the club when it's in turmoil."
