England boss Fabio Capello wants to play Scotland this year.
Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick reports the England manager knows about the history of the fixture and wants to fix a clash between Scotland and the 'Auld Enemy'.
Barwick said: "We fully wanted to play Scotland in May at Wembley, and everyone was disappointed. But it does suggest there is a real appetite for it to happen.
"I explained to Fabio about the history of the fixture, that it was the first international fixture, and he was solidly behind playing the game."
Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith said talks about another date would take place over the rest of the weekend.
"We were disappointed it didn't happen, but our manager decided not to go ahead with it," said Smith.
"We are currently discussing if we can arrange another date."
