Burns was recently left out of the Australian Olympic squad but is confident that this setback will give him a great opportunity of performing well throughout new club AEK Athens' pre-season and cementing himself a spot in the first team.
"I am actually looking forward to going over to Greece.
"This will give me a good opportunity to put the Olympic thing all aside, have a good pre-season, get to know the boys."
Burns is adamant that the omission from the Olympic squad will be a blessing in disguise and improve his chances of becoming a popular player with the 10-time Greek champions.
"If I had gone to the Olympics I would have only got back when the seasons starts and probably would have taken a good eight months to break into the team.
"Now I can do the pre-season and take the positives away from the negatives."
