Bolton boss Megson suspends new contract talks

Bolton boss Gary Megson has postponed any detailed negotiations with his out-of contract players until the team post more points on the board.

With relegation still a real threat, Megson knows he has his work cut out at the moment trying to keep the likes of Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Finland goalkeeper, 32, has been part of the fabric of the club for 10 years but is set to walk away in the summer.

Megson said: "I have spoken to Jussi and one of the issues we have is our standing in league.

"We are in a tenuous position, although it is a bit better than it was a couple of months ago.

"But we are not in a position where we can plan long-term because we have short-term problems.

"It is difficult to look six months ahead. Jussi and every other person whose contract is coming to an end in the summer will have to wait until we can deal with it properly."
