Birmingham's O'Connor offers England inside info

Birmingham City's Scottish striker Garry O'Connor says he would have welcomed the chance to help England ahead of their Euro2008 qualifier against Russia.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow forward is surprised they have not contacted him as he would have been happy to help - even the auld enemy.

He told the Daily Mail: "I don't know what information they've got on it but if someone had spoken to me, I'd have been happy to pass on what I know.

"Apart from the pitch, the experience in the stadium is a weird one. You can get up to 100,000 people in there. But the supporters will be around 30 to 40 metres from the pitch.

"The pitch itself is huge. The biggest I've ever played on. Oh, I almost forgot, you know like your carpet, when it wears because you have trodden on it too much?

"It's like that in the centre circle. England could do with getting straight out there after the Estonia game on Saturday and getting as much practice as they can on the pitch."

O'Connor added that England's nightmare vision of Moscow will not be made any better when they step off the pitch.

He said: "Just to rub salt into the wounds, the changing rooms are rubbish and as for the showers ..."
