Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte is chasing Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante for a January deal.
Inter was the most likely destination, according to reports over the last few months, with Conte pushing for a reunion with one of the most important members of his 2016/17 title-winning side.
Corriere dello Sport says Conte's side haven't given up hope of a move, and could return for the former Leicester City midfielder as soon as January.
However, a deal would seemingly be contingent on Inter finding a buyer for Christian Eriksen, with the club reportedly ready to listen to offers for the Dane less than a year after signing him from Tottenham Hotspur.
After struggling with injuries last season, Kante has started all four of Chelsea's Premier League games this term.
