Conor Clifford making rapid progress at Chelsea

Chelsea management are delighted with the progress of Conor Clifford this season.

The teenage Irish midfielder has moved rapidly up the ranks and is now featuring for Chelsea's reserve-team.

"Conor has done very well as his first start in the reserves was only last month at Portsmouth," reserve team manager Steve Holland told chelseafc.com.

"He is only 17 and the Republic of Ireland isn't an obscure football nation so they have got some good players. For Conor to be selected at Under 21 level as a 17-year-old is great credit to him.

"The function of the reserves is two-fold,' Holland continues. 'It is a stepping stone for the younger players, hopefully something like the first team in the way it plays, and it is also a vehicle for senior players that need some games."
