Connor Roberts admits it was time to take up a "new challenge" by leaving boyhood club Swansea City for Burnley.

The Wales fullback penned a four-year deal after Burnley paid £2.5m for his signature.

Speaking to the club's website, Roberts said: "I have been at Swansea City since I was 10 years old and thoroughly enjoyed my time there obviously, but there comes a time where you need to accept a new challenge needs to come on to my plate and hopefully I can get that and try my best here at Burnley.

"I am here now and it is a new challenge and something I really want to make positive and the only way I can do that is by playing well and giving absolutely everything when I get called upon."

On stepping up to the Premier League level, Roberts added: "Whenever you go to a new team you want to get that first game, put on the shirt and play football. I can assure that every time I do I will give absolutely everything.

"I wont be the best player on the pitch but I will probably run more than anyone and give absolutely everything and hopefully I can be someone the Burnley fans will be proud to have play for their team.

"Ever since I was a boy I told myself 'you might not be the best player on the pitch but if you run more than anyone and give more than anyone then you will have half a chance' and no matter what level you play at that still stands and that is what I will be trying to do."
