Barcelona star Lionel Messi could be hit with a TWO YEAR ban by CONMEBOL for his outburst over the weekend.

Messi has slammed the Copa America's refereeing after Argentina failed to reach the final.

"We do not have to be part of this corruption, this lack of respect that we have been victims of throughout the competition," said the Argentinian.

"We were there for more than that (third place).

"The corruption, the referees and the rest, it makes you forget football and the show, it ruined everything."

CONMEBOL have released their own statement rebuking Messi in strong tones.

And FOX Football reports the federation could now take concrete action by slapping Messi with a ban - potentially two years - for his accusations.
