League Two Swindon have signed Stone Dominoes right-back Chris Smith after the youngster won a competition run by electronics company Samsung. The 21 year old beat off 5,000 applicants to land a one-year contract with Paolo Di Canio's side.
"It was him who rang me and spoke to me on the phone. I was a bit lost for words as I couldn't believe he just rang me. It was the best feeling ever. I thought I'd missed my chance to turn professional two or three years ago."
Di Canio was impressed by Smith and he will join a squad that contains Jordan Pavett, who won the same competition last year but has yet to feature for the first team.
"Chris looked older than his age. As a right-back he has a fantastic quality. He's not very tall but when he challenges the opponent he has balance. Also, on the ball he is very good," Di Canio told BBC Late Kick Off. "When he [Di Canio] said I was the winner I was stuck for words," Smith told BBC Radio Stoke.
