Former Fenerbahce chief Damien Comolli says former club Liverpool's success is down to their recruitment team.

Comolli is not surprised to see Liverpool's transfer strategy leading to on-field success.

"Liverpool I think the success speaks for itself," Comolli told Sky Sports. "At the time I remember people from the press saying 'don't you think they are overpaying for van Dijk, for Alisson?'

"My answer was: 'I know how they work, I know they are looking at all the data, I know everything is analytic based.'"

Comolli also believes Liverpool have not backed down from signing players who will improve the squad just because of their large price tags.

He added: "And what they are saying is they look at their transfer budget and they say 'we've got £100-£150million to spend, whatever that figure is, and that player if we sign him is going to bring us two or three points that we are missing to win the title or the Champions League'.

"And it's exactly what has happened. I don't hear anyone now saying [for] van Dijk they've overpaid or Alisson they've overpaid.

"They did the right piece of business, because they knew their budget and they knew exactly what those players would bring, and in the end they've got the success they deserve."
