Newcastle United have appealed to the Football Association over the red card given to Fabricio Coloccini during Sunday's 3-0 defeat by local rivals Sunderland.

The 33-year-old was sent off just before half-time for denying Steven Fletcher a clear goalscoring opportunity, resulting in a penalty.

A Regulatory Commission will hear the appeal on Tuesday afternoon.
