Released Aston Villa prospect Colin Odutayo has been trialling with Newcastle United.
The Evening Chronicle says the 19-year-old played 90 minutes in the Under-23's 1-1 draw with Hartlepool United this week but the Magpies are mulling over their options on the player.
The Dutch youngster, who can play left-wing or down the opposite flank, has been released by Villa and is searching for a new side.
However, the Roermond-born player is now spending the week with Sheffield Wednesday and it remains unclear whether United will take another look at this stage.
A new look Toon second string saw Jack Young take the armband and former defender Peter Ramage watch his first game as Under-23 coach.
Ramage will work alongside Chris Hogg and Ben Dawson this season.
