Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet broke a five-year old record in their 1-1 draw with Europa League opponents Manchester United last night.
Brugge took an early lead on 15 minutes when Nigerian striker Emmanuel Bonaventure raced on to a long clearance from Mignolet to lob calmly over United keeper Sergio Romero who had come charging out of his penalty area to try and clear.
Opta Joe have since pointed out that Mignolet is the first goalkeeper to provide an assist in the Europa League since Guilherme for Lokomotiv Moscow against Sporting Lisbon in September 2015.
