Paraguayan striker Salvador Cabanas is close to a move to Sunderland.
The Mirror says Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has teed up a deal that would see the World Cup hit man come to Wearside on loan for the rest of the season before making a permanent switch if he settles in England.
Cabanas, 29, plays in Mexico for Club America and is the leading scorer in their domestic competitions. But he wants a crack at the Premier League now to sharpen up for his country before the World Cup finals.
The bustling, exciting and sometimes temperamental star knows he will go in the shop window in England for both his own career and his chances of making the starting line-up for Paraguay.
