Clichy admits Man City struggling with Champions League intensity

Manchester City fullback Gael Clichy admits they're struggling with the intensity of the Champions League.

CSKA Moscow shocked City 2-1 in this week's Champions League tie.

"European football is a different ball game," he said in an interview in the City programme before the defeat.

"Europe is less intense, less physical than the Premier League and is more technical and we need to adapt to that.

"It's difficult because in England we are one of the best two or three teams. In the Champions League, it is different because teams play in a different way.

"People may assume we are better than CSKA, but as the manager said, they are one of the best teams in their country. They know how to play in this competition and if you allow them to have time on the ball, they can hurt you.

"In the Premier League, we don't always find that is the case. It is not that we are above everyone, but sometimes we rely on Sergio doing something amazing or Silva or Yaya [Toure] producing a piece of magic because we have so much quality within our team.

"In Europe, you don't have that luxury because if you rely on one of your own players, producing something special, it could be too late because the opponents will almost certainly be capable of hurting you, so that is the balance we need to find."
