Clattenburg: Man Utd striker Rashford deserved straight red card

Former Premier League ref Mark Clattenburg says Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford deserved to be sent off at Burnley.

Clattenburg wrote for the Daily Mail: "Marcus Rashford was sent off for retaliating after a challenge from Burnley defender Phil Bardsley.

"Having already won the ball, Bardsley tried to trip Rashford off the pitch and Bardsley deserved his yellow card.

"But the Manchester United striker responded by throwing his head into Bardsley.

"We saw a similar incident last week when Everton forward Richarlison was sent off for clashing heads with Bournemouth's Adam Smith.

"It does not matter how soft the contact is. Any headbutt — or attempt to do so — is a red-card offence, so it was the correct call by Jon Moss."
