Class! Benfica president tells Luiz 'fight for new Arsenal contract'

Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira has revealed he's urged David Luiz to fight for a new contract at Arsenal.

Vieira admits he's spoken to Luiz about a return to Benfica - but has recommended he not do so at this time.

He explained to Benfica TV: “I spoke to David yesterday. We have a father-son relationship.

“David was in the car with his agent. They are working on a contract extension at Arsenal.

“He is someone who loves Benfica, but he is also a professional who makes a lot of money. What he earns now, Benfica cannot afford. Perhaps the day will come when he wants to leave. If he is 35 and physically perfectly fine, we would of course welcome David with open arms.

“But he now earns seven to eight million euros a year. If he were to return to Benfica now, it would have to be a million euros. As a father, I would say, 'David, are you crazy or something? You are not coming! You have to make money!'

"When his career ends, no one will show any more interest. If David were to return to Benfica today, it should be on those terms. Otherwise it is not feasible."
