FC Cincinnati are in talks over a deal for Jurgen Locadia.
The player is on loan at the MLS club until July 5.
But the club want to extend the deal so they can get more chances to see him perform in league play.
MLS is suspended, and FC Cincinnati would not want to commit to a permanent transfer until Locadia plays more.
"We're talking now with Brighton & Hove Albion to review the loan agreement again, how to find each other a win-win situation for all the parties," FC Cincy general manager Gerard Nijkamp said.
"We must first have a better understanding about what will happen with the summer window, the finish of the season in Europe and the restart of our league."
