Chunnam Dragons have announced striker Ji Dong-won is set to join Sunderland.
The striker, who was part of the South Korea squad that finished third in the Asian Cup in January, will travel to Sunderland to complete a medical before the end of the month.
A statement on the Dragons website said: "Ji Dong-won's transfer will inevitably leave a big hole in our roster. But for the sake of the player's future and for the development of Korean football, we decided to allow his move."
The club said the player would sign a three-year contract with Sunderland, but did not reveal the transfer fee.
Local media, though, estimated the fee will be close to £2.2m for the 20-year-old, who will look to match the achievements of compatriots Park Ji-sung at Manchester United and Bolton's Lee Chung-yong.
