Chris Wood: Newcastle crowd best I've played in front of

Newcastle United striker Chris Wood admits he's loving playing in front of the Toon faithful.

The 30-year-old Auckland-born centre-forward opened his account at St James' Park in the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and now has his sights set on his old club Leicester City this Easter Sunday. With confidence high after smashing home his penalty against Wolves, Wood feels the Geordie crowd can play their part again when the Foxes arrive on Tyneside.

Wood told Chronicle Live: "Some of the nights I've had, this crowd were the best I've played in front of. It is fantastic to be able to pull on the shirt and play for this club in front of these fans. They are fantastic and it is nice we doing the business for them.

"We're in a much better position than we were three months ago which is a fantastic thing. We're looking to build and progress and get better and better.

"It's not about worrying who's behind us it's about pushing forward and seeing if we can catch who's above us. It's fantastic to be where we are at. A lot more hard work to go and a few more wins definitely."
