Chivas USA wield the axe releasing 10 players

Chivas USA have started their offseason cleanout by axing no less than 10 players from their 2013 MLS squad.

The Goats, who finished bottom in the Western Conference this year, have decided to sweep clean what they believe is deadweight out of the StubHub Center dressing room in order to rebuild in 2014.

Four players on loan from parent club CD Guadalajara - Mario de Luna, Jaime Frias, Edgar Mejia and Julio Morales - have been sent back to Mexico while the club has declined options on six players.

Goalkeeper Patrick McLain, defender Steven Purdy, midfielders Daniel Antunez, Marvin Iraheta and Josue Soto, and forward Jose Manuel Rivera have all been waived by the Los Angeles outfit.
