Chief agent for Smalling deal now in Italy for crunch Roma talks

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is on the brink of returning to Roma.

United and Roma appear to have found common ground after months of negotiations about a permanent deal.

Jozo Palac, who has been acting as the chief intermediary for the deal, touched down in Rome today and was seen entering the Trigoria sports centre with two offsiders.

It's understood Palac was scheduled to meet with Roma chief exec Guido Fienga.

There is hope, particularly on Roma's side, that an agreement can be finalised by the end of today.
