Chicago Fire signs draft defender Franco

Chicago Fire have officially signed promising defender Marco Franco.

The 22-year old was selected by the Fire with pick number 13 in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and has now signed a professional deal.

"Marco is an athletic, solid player and will add depth to our backline heading into the 2014 season," said Chicago Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop.

"From his performance at the Combine and throughout preseason, we are hoping Marco can transition from the collegiate level to the professional game."

Franco arrives at Chicago following a standout four-year career at the University of California-Irvine between 2010 and 2013. He also played for the Orange County Blues FC in the USL Premier Development League (PDL) last year.
