Chicago Fire midfielder Pause ready to end career

Logan Pause insists he is ready to 'step away' from professional soccer.

The 33-year old defensive midfielder will play his final match for the Chicago Fire in the weekend's home clash with Houston Dynamo which brings to an end a 12-year MLS spell.

Six-time USA international Pause, who will end on 309 total appearances, admits it may be difficult to continue life without playing regularly but feels the time is right.

"I'm 100 percent ready to step away, I don't know how those guys continue to do it at the high level," Pause said.

"I'm joyful and content with the decision and ready and excited for the next chapter, for new challenges and to be able to sit where you guys are and cheer on these guys and the organization for years to come."

Pause added: "It's an emotional week for sure.

"One more training session and one more game before wrapping 12 years up.

"Definitely a lot of emotion but I'm excited to celebrate with all my friends and family that have played a pivotal role in getting here and then celebrate with the fans on our home field, it's just a great way to go out."

During his career with the Fire, Pause helped the club win two Lamar Hunt US Open Cups (2003 and 2006) as well as the 2003 MLS Supporters' Shield. Individually, he won the Chicago Fire MVP award in 2010.
