Chelsea willing to wait until deadline day for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong

Chelsea are prepared to wait until the final days of the summer market to try again for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Sport says there are two teams pushing for him, Manchester United and Chelsea. They have both negotiated with Barcelona and are ready to pay the €80 million the Catalan club want, but the toughest thing is the Dutchman's desire to remain at Camp Nou.

But the interested parties are not giving up. Chelsea will wait until the end of the window to sign the player knowing that Barça are pressing him to leave.

Barça want to sell De Jong because they need to lower their wage bill to register Jules Kounde and Marcos Alonso. As an alternative, they have proposed that he reduces his salary.

For now, his agents and the player, who was on the bench against Rayo Vallecano, have refused to negotiate a salary cut and have not shown a will to leave, either, but the Blaugrana are beginning to believe that it's a strategy to get the best possible conditions from United or Chelsea.
