Chelsea to upset Newcastle pursuit of Mitrovic

Chelsea are all set to swoop ahead of Newcastle United and secure a deal to sign Serbian ace Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Magpies and Swansea City have both shown interest in the 20-year-old striker, who Belgian club Anderlecht have valued at £15million, but the Daily Star suggests that the Premier League champions are now showing considerable interest.

The Serbia international is looking for wages of around £60,000 a week plus bonuses and is also hoping to play Champions League football next season.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bump up his striking power as the Chelsea boss is also considering Barcelona star Pedro for his squad next season.

However, Mitrovic is seven years younger than Pedro, and is more likely to be the kind of player the Chelsea boss is looking for as support for lead striker Diego Costa and new signing Radamel Falcao.

Mitrovic, who scored an impressive 23 goals last season, should would join fellow Serbs Nemanja Matic and Branislav Invanovic at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have also expressed interested in the Serbian striker, but Chelsea are the ones to step up their game after the Pedro deal with Barcelona was reportedly postponed.
