Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is set to be the odd man out if Leicester City fullback Ben Chilwell arrives in January.

The Telegraph says Alonso could be relegated to third choice in his position with Frank Lampard preferring Italy international Emerson Palmeri.

Alonso, 28, made his Spain debut last year and could hunt a move back to his native shores if Chelsea decided to replace him, having been on the books at Real Madrid between 1998 and 2010.

Chilwell is on Chelsea's shopping list in the event their appeal against a two window transfer ban is successful later this month.

Alonso, who was subbed off for Reece James at half time after failing to impress against Ajax, was linked with a move back to Real Madrid before the last summer transfer window.
