Chelsea are in advanced talks to sign Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spanish club would not accept anything less than Kepa's release clause of €80m. However, the money gained from the mooted sale of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid would offset Chelsea's outlay.
Reports in Spain believe Chelsea officials will fly to Basque Country on Wednesday to complete the deal and hope to have him lined up against Huddersfield in the Premier League opener on Saturday.
Chelsea remain interested in Diego Rico and Jack Butland as potential replacements for Courtois. But Kepa is their number one priority.
The 23-year-old is highly rated and has earned one international cap for Spain.
