Chelsea summer budget boost thanks to Morata sale

Chelsea will be due a cash boost this summer from the sale of Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid.

The striker linked up with Diego Simeone's side in January 2019 after scoring just 24 goals in 18 months at Stamford Bridge.

Morata is now approaching the end of an 18-month loan at Atletico, where he's scored 18 goals in 49 appearances.

However, there's no way back for the Spain international at Chelsea after they insisted Atletico agree to a £48.5m permanent transfer in 2020.

The deal was struck last summer and will go through in July, allowing Blues manager Frank Lampard to add to his summer transfer budget before he has to deal with the rest of his squad.
