Chelsea suffer heavy Gilmour injury blow

Chelsea whizkid Billy Gilmour's season appears over due to a knee injury.

Gilmour has enjoyed a breakout year under Frank Lampard and was picked ahead of the experienced Jorginho in the Blues' important fixture at Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

But the Scotland Under 21 international's campaign looks to have ended early after he picked up an injury to his knee, reports The Sun.

Gilmour, 19, was preferred to experienced Italian star Jorginho for Tuesday's crucial 3-2 win at Crystal Palace which saw Chelsea climb into third spot.

But the young Scot was substituted with ten minutes to go and it is now touch and go whether Gilmour will be able to play any further part in Chelsea's Premier League campaign.

There are four league games to go plus the FA Cup campaign, with Chelsea in the semi finals against Manchester United on Sunday week.

But insiders at Stamford Bridge fear Gilmour will be missing for at least the next four or five games with the problem.
