Chelsea striker Timo Werner: I was the one who suffered most from VAR

Chelsea striker Timo Werner says he was a victim of VAR last season.

Werner struggled in front of goal in his first season in England.

He arrived at Chelsea after they activated his £47.5million release clause, prising him away from RB Leipzig where he bagged a top-class 95 goal haul in just 158 games.

That scoring rate put him up there with virtually all of Europe's heavyweights, meaning he arrived in West London amid great expectations from fans.

The Germany international said: “I read that they want to make the VAR line thicker in England, that would be good for me because then I would have five more goals this season.

“Basically the VAR is fine and I say that, although I suffered most of it."
