Chelsea striker Giroud proud of winner: But celebrating after VAR frustrating

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud was delighted with his spectacular winner against Atletico Madrid last night.

Giroud struck with a bicycle kick as Chelsea won the first-leg of their Champions League round 16 tie 1-0 in Bucharest.

He told RMC: "It's the kind of gesture that I like for those who know me.

"After I have success, the defender does not go there frankly, I am ahead. The only thing, I tell Mason (Mount) 'if he refuses me the goal, I will blame you', if he leaves it to me I have it on the centre. We're not going to be choosy, I'm happy to see the ball in the net, it's great for me and for the team."

He added: "With VAR you have to have patience, keep the faith. Good for us and for me, but it's a long time to decide. It was an important decision, as the referee told us during the match. It's weird to celebrate three minutes after anyway."
