Chelsea striker Giroud: I really want to be here, but I need...

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud says he wants to stay - but warns he also wants to be playing regularly.

Giroud is off contract at the end of the season.

"I'm a competitor," he told the Daily Mail. "I'm 32, almost 33. I feel very good physically. I have one of the best physical tests [at Chelsea]. I feel well with my body and the most important thing is to still have this hunger to win some more trophies, to play more games.

"As a competitor, I want to play more. [Recently] I answered a simple question: 'Am I happy to play the second role?" As a competitor, logically, I answered: “Not really'."

Talk turns to next season. His contract is up, Chelsea have an option to renew for a year and boss Maurizio Sarri says the club want to do so.

"I really want to be here," says Giroud. "As the manager said, they really want to keep me and give me one more year. I'm really happy to stay because I like playing for Chelsea, I feel very well from the first day I arrived, like I was part of the family. But, as I said, I will need to play more."
