French actor and writer Eric Naulleau says World Cup winner Olivier Giroud deserves a statue in his homeland.

On the day the Chelsea striker signed a new 12 month deal, Naulleau took to social media to pay tribute.

He declared: “A player like Olivier Giroud would have his statue in Germany, Italy or anywhere else in the world.

"But not in France where the networks endlessly discuss the merits of the third best goalscorer in the history of the Blues.

"The French exception!"
