Chelsea striker Giroud assures fans over fitness recovery

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has assured fans of his fitness after a tough debut in victory over West Brom.

Giroud, an £18m January signing from Arsenal, was taken off after an hour by manager Antonio Conte.

He was kicked in the back of the head while on the floor and suffered some heavy challenges.

But the marksman says he feels no serious damage and is raring to pull on the Blue shirt again.

“I feel very good," the striker said. “It's been maybe two months since I started a game.

“I'm training hard and working to be ready physically and I tried to do what the coach asked me to do tactically.

"I couldn't play all of the game anyway because of my physical form but I had a pain in my calf and I was basically limping.

“I didn't want to go off, I said at half-time when they put stitches in my head that I wanted to carry on, but the calf was very painful.

“The main thing was the calf, when I received a kick from behind.

“It was sore so hopefully I'm going to recover quickly.

“It's part of the game and as long as it's not on purpose it's okay, I'm used to it and the doctor has done a good job."
