New Chelsea signing Yuri Zhirkov has confirmed reports Roman Abramovich urged him to learn English four years ago.

He told Sport-Express: "He said to me 'Yuri, you must go and learn English'.

"Unfortunately, I did not listen to his recommendation, I never knew at the time that I would ever get the chance to move to the Premier League."
