Chelsea signing Marco van Ginkel admits he was open to signing for Ajax this summer.

Van Ginkel moved to Chelsea from Vitesse Arnhem, which refused to do business with Eredivise rivals, last week.

"This is a big step, yes," he said. "Initially I saw the same route for me as Adam Maher (now of PSV), via a Dutch club.

"But a move to Ajax has never been possible."
