Chelsea are chasing Dinamo Zagreb star Luka Modric convinced the young Croatian can make as big an impact as Manchester City's Elano.

Roman Abramovich is chasing £15million-rated Croat midfielder Modric in a bid to make Chelsea more entertaining.

Chelsea believe he can achieve for them what Elano has done for Manchester City as Abramovich tries to shake off the 'boring Chelsea' tag gained under Jose Mourinho.

Arsene Wenger has monitored Modric for a year and sees him as a successor to Inter Milan target Tomas Rosicky.

But Zagreb refused to sell him in the summer to quell a revolt from fans unhappy that Eduardo had joined Arsenal.
