Chelsea release Mellis after smoke grenade incident

Chelsea have parted ways with youngster Jacob Mellis following a smoke bomb prank at the club's training ground.

The 21-year old midfielder has been released by the Blues after setting off a smoke grenade in the Cobham dressing rooms on March 2 which forced trained fire marshals to be called in.

A full evacuation procedure was required with players and staff running from the building to escape the thick smoke.

Mellis' fate was sealed today after a thorough investigation into the incident and the player is now unattached after Chelsea terminated his contract.
