Chelsea plotting January bid for West Ham utility Rice

Chelsea will renew their interest in Declan Rice in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been a long-term target for the Blues, with whom he spent the earliest years of his career.

No official bid came from the west London club this past summer despite mounting speculation.

However, according to the Daily Star, Frank Lampard is eyeing a winter move for the England international.

Chelsea spent more than £200m during the summer window, but Lampard views Rice as the missing player in his team.

Rice lines up in the midfield for West Ham, however, Lampard sees the youngster as a centre-back.
