Chelsea are racing ahead in the race to sign Flamengo midfielder Gerson.

The club are working hard to secure new players so they can mount a proper title challenge under Frank Lampard next season.

And their next target appears to be Gerson from Brazil.

Fox Sports claims that the 23-year-old is wanted by the Stamford Bridge club.

Flamengo are seeking £30 million for the talent who arrived from Roma in July for £10.5 million.

The club do not want to lose Gerson, but would sell him if they could make such a profit in a short space of time.

The central midfielder would bolster Lampard's options in the middle of the park.
